Maybe I've got a good ear, which is why the tiny errors bothered me, or maybe I've got a bad ear and the errors were bigger than I thought lol. A true 'strobe' tuner somehow constantly compares the sound its picking up with a reference - similar to using a strobe timing light on a car engine, in fact I believe the original strobe tuners used a similar principle with a spinning mechanical wheel - so there is no delay in the sharp/flat display at all and very tiny differences can be regi. I mostly do lead stuff, so those tiny errors were imperceptible between individually picked notes. Small errors building up across strings when using harmonics to tune sounds like it was probably my problem! Also, just wanted to clarify that I really only noticed the very slight out of tuneness when playing chords. Guitar Tuner pulses two out-of-phase LED light beams directly onto the vibrating string. I've been playing for 8 years now and am pretty decent, but man, GET A TUNER! I feel so dumb for not investing in a good tuner sooner. Well, long story short, I got a snark tuner, and now everything just feels so much crisper. Nothing awful! But just barely off, practically a matter of feel than actual hearing an incorrect pitch. But I've always never quite been in tune, ya know? I've done the harmonics on the 5th and 7th fret, but it's always been a tad off. I had read that clip on tuners weren't that great either. ![]() I've always used a tuner app on my phone since tuner pedals are so expensive for what they are.
